Washington, DC – Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted for the conference report of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020. Representative Sherrill is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and her district includes Picatinny Arsenal, the U.S. Army's Joint Center of Excellence for Guns and Ammunition.

Washington, DC -- Representative Sherrill announced today that her Biomedical Innovation Expansion Act of 2019 (H.R. 4667) will be included in the House’s landmark Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019 (H.R. 3). Representative Sherrill’s bill, co-sponsored by Representatives Mike Levin (CA-49) and Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), invests $10 billion over the next ten years in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to provide support for scientific research related to antibiotic resistance, cancer, and rare diseases. Savings from H.R. 3 will be used to fund this $10 billion investment.

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted for the Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4), critical legislation to restore the full strength of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA). The Supreme Court’s Shelby v. Holder decision gutted the VRA’s ability to combat voter suppression and discrimination. Since the Shelby v. Holder decision, at least 23 states have enacted voter suppression laws, including voter purges, strict ID requirements, poll closures, and curtailing of early voting hours.

Washington, DC – Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced today that Livingston High School senior Dina Brustein is the winner of the 2019 Congressional App Competition for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Dina’s SNAPApp helps low-income families get information about the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) in a centralized location. The SNAPApp allows SNAP recipients to check eligibility for SNAP and free school lunches, apply for SNAP, see what items are available to purchase with SNAP, and other benefits through the program.

Washington, DC – Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced today that Hopatcong Borough received a $89,837.54 grant from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Rural Development to repair and rehabilitate housing in the borough. The Housing Preservation Grant will support households with health and safety hazards and improve access for persons with disabilities.

Representative Sherrill held her first town hall meeting in January 2019, and since then has held public meetings in every county in the 11th District.

Landing, NJ -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) met yesterday with Governor Murphy and state and local officials to discuss harmful algal blooms (HABs) at Lake Hopatcong and the Governor’s proposal to invest $13.5 million statewide through an enhanced program of science-based prevention, mitigation, study, and response. The HAB at Lake Hopatcong this summer resulted in a recreational advisory which impacted residents and businesses surrounding the lake. Lake Hopatcong is the largest lake in New Jersey.
