Parsippany, NJ – Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced the launch of the “Valentines for Veterans” program. Residents are invited to drop off Valentine’s Day cards for military veterans at Representative Sherrill’s District Office in Parsippany, starting today through Monday, February 10, 2020. Cards submitted in envelopes should not be sealed closed unless mailed to the district office. The cards will be distributed to veterans throughout the 11th Congressional District.

Morristown, NJ -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) joined with the community this morning for the 50th anniversary Martin Luther King Interfaith Breakfast of Morristown. Organized by the Martin Luther King Observance Committee, the breakfast recognized Dr. King, local civil rights pioneer Dr. Felicia Jamison, and youth speaker Perri Easley. Representative Sherrill spoke about the importance of remembering Dr. King’s legacy, and the work that remains ahead to build the “beloved community” in New Jersey.
Rep. Sherrill Introduces Legislation to Expand Opioid Resources for Medical and Health Professionals

Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Representative Andy Kim (NJ-03) introduced the Solutions not Stigmas Act (H.R. 5631) to allow medical and other health professional schools to access federal grant funding to enhance patient-provider education. Specifically, it would provide resources for schools to develop their curricula to address existing stigma and bias, improve patient care, and increase preparedness with respect to substance use disorder and chronic pain treatment. The funding would also support clinical training experiences in primary care, mental and behavioral health.

Representative Sherrill held 11 town halls in 2019, crossing the district to hear from residents and share her legislative priorities in Congress.

Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted yesterday for a bipartisan bill to protect older New Jersey workers from age discrimination. The Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act (H.R. 1230) addresses the 2009 Gross v FBL Financial Services Supreme Court decision that has made it harder for older workers to prove discrimination. It would return to the pre-2009 evidentiary standard to ensure that all victims of discrimination, including older workers, receive fair adjudication of their claims.

Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted today for H.R. 535, the PFAS Action Act of 2019, comprehensive, bipartisan legislation to address the public health threat from PFAS chemicals. Per- and poly- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of man-made chemicals that have been linked to adverse health effects including cancer, immune system effects, infertility, impaired child development, high cholesterol, and thyroid disease. Because of their strong atomic bonds, these are known as “forever chemicals” that are extremely persistent in the environment.
