Constituent Success Stories

It is an honor to serve the people of New Jersey's 11th Congressional District. When you need assistance with a federal agency, our team is here to help. We work with residents in NJ-11 to resolve issues with Medicare, Social Security, the VA, the IRS, federal student loans, passports, and other federal agencies. We can also help with federal grants and postal issues.

Below are examples of how we can assist. To contact my team, please call (973) 526-5668 or fill out an online form here.

Robert, Totowa:

“I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill’s office when I was having trouble getting benefits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since I was in the military, the unemployment website would not let me file a claim online due to my military status, and this went on for several weeks. With your quick response, I was able to get all my back pay from unemployment insurance, helping me make it through the pandemic. I also recommended Congresswoman Sherrill’s office to my military friends who were having trouble. It was a tremendous help and we all so greatly appreciate it. Your office went above and beyond for me.”

Jean, Bloomfield:

"I am an Irish immigrant and American citizen. After not being able to see my mother or family in Ireland for over two years due to the pandemic, I planned a trip to go visit them when the travel restrictions were lifted. Unfortunately, my daughter’s passport got held up in the processing backlog caused by the pandemic. I was not sure we were going to make it home to see my mother. I reached out to Mikie Sherrill’s office and she and her staff got the ball rolling. My daughter’s passport showed up in the mail 24 hours before we were flying. I am so grateful that Mikie and her staff worked so hard to get my daughter’s passport here. I got to go home and see my family. Thank you Mikie Sherrill and staff."

Mark, Bloomfield

"Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and her staff were instrumental in my family obtaining my late father's Good Conduct Medal and Korea Defense Service Medal, for which he sought so hard to obtain. Her office was extremely proactive and kept in touch every step of the way. I knew that a veteran would look after my Dad, and in turn look after me. Thanks again!"

John, Butler:

“If it weren’t for Congresswoman Sherrill and her team, my unpaid emergency medical bills would still be streaming in. My family and I owe Congresswoman Sherrill a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for taking interest and time to help me. Her team went above and beyond to help a disabled veteran get some relief.”

Villa Restaurant Group, Morristown:

"We contacted Representative Sherrill’s office earlier this year to seek pandemic relief for our restaurant business and resources to help get our employees through this extraordinarily challenging time. Mikie fought hard for specific, important changes to the PPP and EIDL program that benefited our employees, the restaurant industry, and small business throughout her district and we are grateful for her commitment and responsiveness."

Emma, Nutley

“I am about to start university in London in September and needed to renew my passport before I was due to depart. With the Passport Office behind at least six months, I needed help expediting my application. Congresswoman Sherrill’s office helped me renew it and it took less than two weeks. If not for Congresswoman Sherrill, I would not be able to attend school this semester."

Jennifer, Cedar knolls

"I had tried unsuccessfully for over 6 weeks to file my unemployment claim, and I couldn’t get through by phone or via email. I reached out to Mikie’s office, and within the week, I was able to successfully file my claim. I have worked at a gym as a fitness trainer for over 30 years and have never had to file before. But because of COVID restrictions, the gym had to close, and I was temporarily out of work. I was beyond frustrated, but thanks to Mikie and her staff, I was able to collect unemployment while the gym was closed. Thankfully, we've reopened, and I am once again happily employed. I am truly grateful for your intervention in getting my claim through."

Brian, Chatham Borough

"I was sick in bed with COVID-19 when the PPP was initially offered. My small business did not receive a loan. I reached out to Representative Sherrill’s office and they not only listened to my concerns—they did something about it. Within days I received a phone call from the big bank that had originally turned me down and by the beginning of May there was PPP money in my account. I was able to continue to pay my employees and ensure that they still had health insurance. Mikie gets things done!"

Andrew, West Orange

“I reached out to Congresswoman Sherrill’s office for help after a frustrating delay from the IRS to process my tax returns. I received a reply shortly thereafter. A few weeks later my return was processed, and I received the refund. I was very pleased with the rapid response from her office and appreciate the efforts of her aide to resolve this situation.”

Amie, Morristown

“I needed my passport renewed pronto and tried every which way with no results. After contacting Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and explaining the situation I had my passport within one week. Thank you Congresswoman! I am so grateful for your help with this matter.”

Dana, Towaco

“I would like to thank Congresswoman Mikie Sherill and her staff for their tireless efforts to intervene on my behalf with the Social Security Administration resulting in closure to a family estate issue. The people of New Jersey and her constituents are lucky to have Mikie Sherrill in their corner!”

Barbara, Morristown

"I was informed that my Global Entry card was expiring in six months and was encouraged to renew early, which I did. However, seven months after filling out the form, my renewal was still 'pending.' Meanwhile, my husband, who applied at the same time as me, received his renewal within a couple of weeks. I reached out to Representative Sherrill to inquire about the delay. Her staff responded immediately and within just a couple of weeks of their effort, I finally received an email approving my renewal. Thank you to all of you for your assistance. It's yet another example of Rep. Sherrill's commitment to her constituents and her hiring a responsive staff as well."

Patricia, Lincoln Park

"Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s sympathetic staff gave me invaluable advice to deal with a potentially life-threatening communication problem in our townhouse community regarding lack of cell service. Because of her staff, I was able to cut the red tape and deal directly with the company's executive personnel to implement an on-going proposal to resolve our problem. We are most grateful to Rep. Sherrill and her effective staff."

Amy, Totowa

"I have to thank Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill's office for helping my son receive the SSI benefits that he was entitled to. After about 7 months of trying on our own, I reached out to the Congresswoman's office and they were a huge help. My son is now 19 and has autism and is non verbal. I'm happy to say that we did receive the first installment of his retro pay and my son is now receiving his benefits. Thank you!"

Robert, Randolph

"Our uncle, a Navy veteran, passed away with few family and friends nearby in Florida. He was a very simple man without many belongings and he lost the military paperwork necessary to give him the sendoff he deserved. Without the help of everyone at Rep. Sherrill’s office, my family would not have been able to bring him home for a proper burial. If you’re ever in a predicament where you need help, feel overwhelmed or defeated, and don’t know what to do, reach out to the Congresswoman and her team because they were amazing! I was told by numerous people along the way that the process would take months and my uncle would not be permitted to rest alongside other service members, including his brother. After speaking with so many people who did not care to help our family, I was thrilled to speak with Rep. Sherrill’s office, who quickly got us everything we needed for the burial and replicas of all the medals my uncle was awarded! The funeral director said he’s been doing this for 30+ years and no one has ever been able to do what we did in such a short time. Thank you all and God Bless America!"

Bill, Sparta

"I applied for a TSA pre-check travel pass. My wife did the same and received hers in two days. After six weeks, I tried to follow-up by calling the TSA as well as sending emails. I received no response and decided to reach out for help from Congresswoman Sherrill's office. Within 48 hours I received my pass by email.Thank you so much. Without your assistance, I feel I would still be waiting."

Mark, Bloomfield

"Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and her staff were instrumental in my family's obtaining my late Father's Good Conduct Medal and Korea Defense Service Medal, for which he fought so hard to obtain. Her office was extremely proactive and kept in touch every step of the way. I knew that a veteran would look after my Dad, and in turn look after me. Thanks again!"

Robert, Parsippany

"I recently reached out to Congresswoman Sherrill's office, on behalf of Community Hope, Inc. concerning some assistance we needed with the VA's Fiscal Service. Her office was extremely helpful in addressing our issue immediately and provided us with the assistance needed to resolve this problem. We are grateful to the Congresswoman's office's attention and help."

Michael, Morris Plains

"I had been trying to obtain my DD-214 form reflecting my military service in the US Army National Guard for 8 years. I had called a number I was given and left several messages with no response for two weeks with only to finally get one saying I was not entitled to any benefit. I then contacted the office of Congresswoman Sherrill and spoke with a fantastic representative who took my plight and resolved it with diligence in a short period of time. To all members of the National Guard – contact your congressperson for your DD-214 and benefits!"

Frank, Denville

"I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill's office, as I was experiencing issues with obtaining my daughter's passport. After exhausting everything in my power to contact the US Passport Service, I reached out to the Congresswoman's office and had the pleasure of having a real person take genuine interest in my situation and got involved immediately. She reached out to me via email and phone, letting me know of the process and stayed involved until the passport was delivered to my home. My daughter was able to enjoy her trip without the stress surrounding the delivery. Again, I can't say enough about how Congresswoman's office took a real interest and helped out, getting through the red tape and having the passport delivered with only a day to spare...thanks and very much appreciated!!!"

Richard, Morristown

"I just wanted to get in touch to sing the praises of your district staff. I contacted your office late on Wednesday regarding a snag I've encountered in registering for Medicare B as I near retirement from a career in the public schools. Your staff got back to me early Thursday and were exceptionally patient, courteous, and supportive. I know how much you care about your office's performance in constituent service. I write today to tell you how pleased I was with the quality of service performed by your team. I think it reflects well on your commitment to your constituents. I thank you!"

Ingrid, Whippany

"I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill's office when I was having trouble getting my mom's online Social Security account corrected. There was a misspelling that occurred when records were transferred to the computer system back in the 1960s. The SSA was aware of the error but told me that they could not correct the computer error without me providing proper documentation. After months of discussions with different SSA advisors and me providing her Social Security card, state identification, Medicare card, birth certificate, and marriage license, I was told that the computer error could still not be corrected. So I reached out for assistance and the staff at Congresswoman Sherrill's office came through for me. I am happy to report that the error has been corrected! Thank you Mikie Sherrill and your staff for your efforts! I am truly grateful for your help."

Stephen, West Orange

"I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill's office when I was trying to ensure my daughter's passport renewal application was processed in time for an upcoming family vacation. They were very responsive to my request and facilitated communication with the State Department to make sure the application was processed in accordance with the expedited fee that was paid. Congresswoman Sherrill's office kept me apprised of their progress throughout and the passport was received a week before our trip. We are extremely appreciative of the assistance provided and the quick, clear, and consistent communication."

Kathy, Morris Plains

"I contacted US Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill when we were told that we would not be able to get my son's passport on time even though we followed all of the protocols and timelines. They worked with me to get a time slot in New York, then followed up for us when the passport group did not send us the email required. I really appreciate all of the time and effort and the care they showed!"

Patrick, North Haledon

"Representative Sherrill came through for me. After 6 months of calling the VA, about a misplaced large check, I was getting nowhere. After calling representative Sherrill, I was able to get the misplaced check in 2 weeks. Thank you ."

Jeffry, Wayne

"I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill’s office for assistance in obtaining a Navy Medallion for my father’s grave. Both the VA and National Archives were working with limited staff, and my application had been pending for over a year. The Congresswoman’s staff worked with the National Archives to get a copy of my father’s discharge papers, then took the extra step of submitting them to the VA. After waiting over a year, Congresswoman Sherrill’s office called less than a month later to tell me the medallion was on its way. Your efforts in going above and beyond are greatly appreciated."

Linda, Parsippany

"I want to thank Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill's office for assisting me in obtaining a significant refund from Social Security owed to a disabled family member, due to an overpayment Social Security had collected. Although I had contacted the Social Security Administration about this matter over several months, they did not respond. When Mikie Sherrill's office reached out to them directly on my behalf, the Social Security office called me immediately. Shortly after, I received the reimbursement for my family member. Without intervention from our Congresswoman's office, I am sure I would still be waiting for this reimbursement."

Ivan, Livingston

"I had not received my federal tax returns for either 2019 or 2020. I reached out to Rep. Sherrill's office. I subsequently received both with interest."

Ashley Chaudhry, Kinnelon

"Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s office offered me assistance with obtaining my federal tax return. Her staff aided me in obtaining information and offered me quicker and easier solutions to make the process of receiving my funds more efficient. Before contacting the office, I had no way of reaching a person who could provide me with information regarding the status of my return. Instead of waiting for several more months, the office got my tax return to me in a matter of weeks. I have informed others with the same issue that if they are in the 11th District that this is the way to go!"

Ihor, Morristown

"My family owes a huge debt of gratitude to Congresswoman Mikie Sherril and her staff for assisting us in securing a temporary passport for my nephew’s wife. She was born in Morristown and moved to Ukraine at a young age. My nephew was injured in the war in Ukraine and needed medical assistance available in the US. After discovering that her passport had expired she contacted the US Embassy in Kyiv who told her that she would have to wait several weeks for an interview. With the assistance of Congresswoman and her staff she received an interview and temporary passport the next day. My nephew and his wife traveled to the US days after receipt of the passport and he received the needed medical assistance. They will be going home happy to know that a US Congresswoman helped in getting the help that they needed."

JT, Lake Hopatcong

"I’m a Disabled Veteran and Senior. A few months ago, the VA sent me a letter saying they were going to cut my disability benefits and that I had to repay almost $10,000 because I hadn’t responded to letters asking if I was still married. When I called the VA, they acknowledged the previous letters had been sent to the wrong address! Despite filling out the required forms, they continued to give me the runaround for months.

In desperation, I emailed Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill to see if she could help. A member of her team called me the next day. Long story short, Congresswoman Sherrill’s team was absolutely incredible – and they resolved the issue in just a few days!"

Ralph, Morristown

"I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill's office for assistance regarding 2020 and 2021 tax refunds that had not been received yet. Her office responded to my inquiry quickly. After sharing some documentation, an IRS taxpayer assistant contacted me and both refunds were finally paid. This was a much better outcome than I had expected. Thank you very much!"

Shirley, Wharton

"Mikie Sherrill’s office was able to resolve a problem I had with Social Security. I tried for more than 18 months by myself. They responded to me quickly, and I received the money owed, with interest. I didn’t expect a public official to take such a personal interest. I’m very grateful to have her as a resource in my corner."

Brian, Nutley

"My name is Brian and I’m a disabled American who has lived in Essex County NJ most of my life. Around the beginning of the Global Pandemic in 2020 I filed my 2019 Federal Tax return as millions do. I was expecting a relatively modest return. A few months later I received a letter from the IRS asking for a copy of the first page of my return which I sent in promptly. At that point my 2019 Federal Tax return fell into a black hole and disappeared. For almost three years I struggled to get an answer from the IRS with no luck. Finally a friend suggested that I contact Representative Mikie Sherrill’s office. I filed a notice explaining my situation on her website and my case was immediately picked up. It took a little patience and some effort but eventually Mikie Sherrill’s office found my tax return and got it processed. I was so grateful when the Federal Tax Return check arrived in the mail! It wasn’t like thousands of dollars but in my family every dollar counts big time. Thanks again Representative Mikie Sherrill!"

Ben O’Connell, Morristown

"When I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill’s office regarding an issue with my passport, her office was extremely pleasant and prompt when assisting me. I was stranded trying to visit my family abroad and they were able to help me address the issue with my passport shortly after I contacted them. I was able to make my trip and it was a huge help. Thank you so much!"

Rick, Jefferson Township

"We had been dealing with many hours, days, and months of interaction on the phone and faxing documents and letters with various Social Security representatives and were even successful at one time, but was reversed almost immediately back to rescinded status. As we were at the end of patience and options we contacted Congresswoman Sherrill’s office through the website and received a reply quickly!

With very little delay the Social Security office in Paterson called us to begin the steps to address the misinformation clause to restore my Part B status due to the intervention of the Congresswoman's office."

Emily, Montclair

"After a loved one passed away last year, I received a notice from the IRS regarding her taxes. After weeks of trying unsuccessfully to reach someone at the IRS through the contact information they provided, I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill's office for help. Her staff was kind, resourceful, and proactive and they worked with the IRS on my behalf to finally resolve the issue. I was incredibly grateful for their time, professionalism, and care."

Robert, Livingston

"For several months, I was having a very difficult time with all of my 2024 medical claims. While Social Security acknowledged that I was, in fact, enrolled and was deducting Medicare Part B premiums from my monthly Social Security payments, Medicare kept insisting I was not enrolled in Medicare Part B at all and , as a result, was not paying any of my medical claims. I finally contacted Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill's office to ask for help. I was put through to a Caseworker who listened to my situation, asked me to supply relevant proof of my enrollment and took control of the matter. Within about 2-3 weeks, my status was corrected and I'm happy to report Medicare processed all of my old claims and is current on my new claims. The Caseworker was professional and highly competent and a pleasure to deal with in quickly resolving what I could not resolve on my own. Many thanks to the Office of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill."

Janet, West Caldwell

"I reached out to Congresswoman Sherrill’s office because I was having difficulty working with the IRS to obtain my father’s tax refund. My accountant and I spent countless hours on the phone with the IRS, faxing documents and waiting for their responses in the US mail only to be told by a different IRS representative that we needed to do something differently. I could not close his estate without receiving the check. Congressman Sherrill’s office was able to complete the verification process and I received the refund in just a few weeks after struggling with the IRS for two years. My family and I are beyond grateful for this assistance that enabled us to close my dear father’s estate. Thank you, Congresswoman Sherrill!"

Art, Florham Park

"I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill’s office for assistance in receiving a promised Federal Tax payment return. The IRS advised they would pay the return in July 2022. After a year of many unsuccessful attempts to receive the payment by writing and calling the IRS, I contacted Congresswoman Sherrill’s office in June 2023. Her staff was very helpful and I received the refund soon after."

Chinthaka Perera, Parsippany

"I am delighted to share my outstanding experience with Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill's office. Several months ago, I reached out to her office regarding the delayed date of my US Citizenship Oath ceremony. They promptly contacted the regional USCIS field office to inquire about the status and secure a new date for me. Additionally, they assisted me in scheduling a same-day passport appointment, which was incredibly helpful with my travel plans. Their proactive and efficient assistance ensured a seamless process throughout. I wholeheartedly recommend their services to all other constituents. They are not only helpful and reliable but also ready to assist with transparency and professionalism. They listen attentively to your concerns and respond promptly. I had full confidence that they would help me successfully navigate this process."
