Rep. Sherrill Offers Her Amendment on the House Floor
October 23, 2019
Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted for the SHIELD Act (Stopping Harmful Interference in Elections for a Lasting Democracy Act) which included her amendment to strengthen protections against efforts to mislead or deceive voters. The SHIELD Act (H.R. 4617) bars such disinformation operations within 60 days of a federal election. Representative Sherrill’s amendment extends that to 90 days to better protect early voting states like New Jersey.

Honoring Sgt. Michael D. Kirspel, Jr.

Parsippany, NJ -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) joined with the community yesterday morning at Picatinny Arsenal to honor fallen soldier Sergeant Michael D. Kirspel, Jr., of Hopatcong, New Jersey. Picatinny Arsenal unveiled the plaque dedicating the Ballistic Evaluation Center in Sgt. Kirspel’s name.

Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) joined with members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force this morning at a press conference urging the Senate to pass H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, H.R. 1112, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019, and H.R.1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019. All three of these bipartisan bills were passed by the House and have been blocked for a vote by the Senate and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Bloomfield, NJ -- Today, House Science Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee Chairwoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) held a field hearing in Bloomfield, New Jersey, to discuss the effects of lead in drinking water and the challenges that local leaders face in addressing lead contamination. Chairwoman Sherrill’s subcommittee heard from officials in Essex County and experts from across the nation on lead in drinking water. Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee members Representatives Don Beyer (VA-08) and Jennifer Wexton (VA-10) attended the hearing in addition to Representative Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10).

Washington, DC -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) introduced the Biomedical Innovation Expansion Act of 2019 this afternoon with Representatives Mike Levin (CA-49) and Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) to invest $10 billion over the next ten years in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to provide support for scientific research related to antibiotic resistance and rare diseases.

FLOOD MITIGATION 3

Wayne, NJ — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) hosted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), and local mayors yesterday to address flooding in the 11th District of New Jersey. Colonel Thomas Asbery from the USACE gave an update on flooding issues, and mayors from Passaic, Essex, and Morris Counties discussed the issues their towns currently face from repeat and intensifying flooding. Following the discussion, the group went to Two Bridges on Fairfield Road in Wayne for a site visit.
