Sherrill Statement on the MTA’s Approval of New York’s Congestion Pricing Plan
LIVINGSTON, NJ — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement regarding New York’s congestion pricing plan:
“This plan is a tax on New Jersey families meant to force New Jerseyans to pay for MTA upgrades — all without getting a cent back for NJ TRANSIT. Make no mistake: New Jersey will not sit back and take it quietly as New York uses our commuters as a meal ticket for the MTA.
“I strongly supported Gov. Murphy’s lawsuit against New York’s congestion pricing plan last year and I will work with him to use every tool available to force New York to consider an alternative path forward that does not neglect NJ TRANSIT, the New Jersey commuters that power New York’s economy, and the communities that would be hurt most by the environmental impact of this ridiculous plan. We must also work with businesses throughout our region to expand their footprint in New Jersey to avoid New York’s new tax.”
