Sherrill Rebukes New York Congestion Pricing Plan that Imposes Significant Costs on New Jersey Families
Parsippany, NJ — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after a new reporthighlighted that the New York-only Traffic Mobility Review Board will provide credits of just one-third of the new Congestion Pricing cost for the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels and no credit at all for the George Washington Bridge:
“I am greatly disappointed, but not surprised, that New York’s Traffic Mobility Review Board has released a new Congestion Pricing plan that includes no input or consultation from New Jersey officials and residents. This plan will unfairly double tax the almost 400,000 New Jersey residents who work in NYC and contribute immensely to the city’s economy.
“It’s outrageous that New York’s proposal also doesn’t include a single cent of funding for New Jersey Transit – even as thousands of New Jerseyans pay double taxes as part of the proposal. I have fought hard in Congress to fund public transit agencies like NJ TRANSIT as well as the Gateway Project, and I will continue pushing back against New York’s greedy cash grab from New Jersey commuters.”
Sherrill has consistently fought back against New York’s congestion pricing plan that will raise costs for New Jersey commuters. In May 2023, she led a bipartisan letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul urging her to cancel the pending implementation of the plan. In June 2023, Sherrill called upon the State of New Jersey to sue New York over congestion pricing, which Gov. Murphy did in July. Also in June 2023, Sherrill submitted a comment to the Department of Transportation on New York’s Congestion Pricing Environmental Assessment that expressed her significant concerns with how the plan will impact New Jersey residents.
