Sherrill Applauds President Biden’s Decision to Strengthen Privacy Protections for Abortion Patients
LIVINGSTON, N.J. – Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement applauding the Biden Administration’s decision to strengthen privacy protections under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to protect women seeking reproductive care and their providers:
“The decision to seek reproductive care, and the decision if and when to start a family should be between women and their doctors – not politicians. I applaud the Biden Administration’s decision to strengthen privacy protections for medical records so women who seek abortion care can do so without the fear of their personal medical information being used against them while ensuring providers are not forced to report their patients to law enforcement. As extremists continue to try and beat back abortion services nationwide, I will continue standing with President Biden to protect women, doctors, and access to abortion services.”
Representative Sherrill continues to lead the fight in Congress to improve women’s health. Yesterday, she hosted a press conference with emergency physicians to discuss the critical need to protect access to life-saving abortion care as the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Idaho vs. United States.
