Statement by Rep. Mikie Sherrill

November 15, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, a Navy veteran and member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement:

“Today, New Jerseyans came to Washington, D.C. to gather in support of Israel’s security in the wake of the attacks on October 7, demand Hamas release the more than 200 hostages still captive, and to protest the dangerous rise of anti-Semitism we’ve seen in the U.S. and across the world. The constituents I met with were praying for peace and I was encouraged to see reportsthat progress is being made on negotiations to release some of the hostages, including women and children. I am also encouraged by the discussions of an extended pause in hostilities, which we must move toward quickly to address the humanitarian crisis. As Hamas continues to use human shields and restrict Gazans’ movements, the U.S. must continue to work with Israel to ensure the safety of patients in the hospitals and access to medical care for civilians. Congress must also come together to finally pass security assistance for allies in Israel and Ukraine, and robust support for the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
