SIGNED INTO LAW: The Think Differently Database Act
WASHINGTON, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) helped lead the bipartisan Think Differently Database Act, which was signed into law by President Biden last weekend. This law will establish an online database to publicize resources available to individuals with disabilities, and their families or caregivers, under Medicaid. Sherrill’s efforts will help to bridge the gap that far too many New Jerseyans with disabilities experience when trying to find and coordinate care in their community.
“I am so excited that the bipartisan Think Differently Database Act is now law. I joined former Rep. Molinaro to introduce this legislation because I frequently hear from New Jersey families about the challenges they face finding and coordinating high-quality care for their loved ones. I was proud to help get this bill across the finish line, and look forward to partnering with advocates to ensure that the database created by this bill is responsive to the needs of New Jersey families,” said Rep. Sherrill.
Individuals with disabilities often face barriers to receiving healthcare. H.R. 609, the Think Differently Database Act will require the Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary to establish a publicly-available website with information on Medicaid-covered services for people with disabilities, including details on eligibility, how to get in contact with state Medicaid offices, and covered long-term care services. Additionally, the bill instructs HHS to create a promotion plan to raise awareness of the resource.
