Sherrill Statement on U.S.-Negotiated Deal to Pause Hostilities and Release Hostages

November 22, 2023

Parsippany, NJ –– Today, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement:

“For more than a month, hundreds of families have lived in gut wrenching horror as their loved ones were held hostage by Hamas terrorists and as they searched for safety during the bombing of Gaza. We will not rest until all hostages are released and civilians in Gaza have access to safety. I’m relieved to see President Biden, Secretary Blinken, and the officials who have worked around the clock on this deal succeed in releasing at least 50 hostages, including women and children, and securing a four-day cessation of hostilities. It is clear that the pause in fighting is critical to delivering robust humanitarian aid to address the deteriorating conditions in Gaza, and that the release of all hostages are critical conditions for a negotiated, peaceful settlement to the conflict. Going forward, it is essential that Israel clearly articulate its strategic military goals, work with partners, including the U.S., to release the rest of the hostages, and that we pursue a path towards a peaceful, secure future for both Israelis and Palestinians.”
