Sherrill Statement on New Tariffs to Protect U.S. Innovation and Jobs in Industries of the Future
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced new trade measures to prevent the Chinese Communist Party from using unfair trade practices to harm American manufacturing in key sectors, like electric vehicles, clean energy, and semiconductors:
“The Chinese Communist Party uses extensive government subsidies, intellectual property theft, and forced technology transfers to build-up companies in advanced manufacturing sectors like electric vehicles and semiconductors. And under their new “Made in China 2025” strategy, which I introduced a resolution to counter, the CCP intends to significantly scale these illegal economic measures to dominate the key technologies of the 21st century and put U.S. companies out of business.
“The targeted trade measures announced by President Biden will protect American workers and our economy. Unlike many of the tariffs imposed on key U.S. allies by the previous Administration, these measures are closely targeted at illegal trade practices used by the CCP and will complement the crucial investments we’ve made that led to historic American manufacturing jobs growth in 2021 and 2022.”
