Sherrill Statement on House Republicans’ Latest Attempt to Fund their Political Agenda Using New Jersey’s Tax Dollars
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released a statement following her NO vote on House Republicans’ Continuing Resolution that fails to rein in Elon Musk — an unelected billionaire — while jeopardizing access to critical programs, such as health care for veterans and disaster relief in the wake of extreme storms:
“With control of the House, Senate, and the presidency, Washington Republicans opted for a partisan funding measure that does nothing to protect Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security. Instead, they are jeopardizing critical resources for New Jersey while abdicating responsibility for our economy by letting Donald Trump enact extreme tariffs and allowing Elon Musk to line his own pockets with our tax dollars. Today, I voted NO on this irresponsible bill that threatens health care access for veterans, makes it harder for New Jersey families to get housing assistance, and fails to fully support the Disaster Relief Fund, leaving communities without resources after extreme weather events, like hurricanes and major floods. I will continue to use all of the leverage we have to rein in Trump and Musk’s agenda, which will make life unaffordable for families, target political opponents, and dismantle our democracy.”
