Sherrill Joined by Woodland Park Police Lieutenant Erik Luker for Joint Meeting with NATO Secretary General

Washington, DC – Today, Woodland Park Police Lieutenant Erik Luker joined Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) for the Joint Meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Sherrill and Luker spoke afterwards about their experiences in the Armed Forces working with our NATO allies and the importance of that relationship to the women and men serving abroad.

"I served in the Navy in Europe and know firsthand the importance of our NATO partners," said Congresswoman Sherrill. "As Secretary General Stoltenberg reminded us this morning, the United States is the backbone of the NATO alliance and a continued commitment to our partners is critical to international security. Congress must ensure that we remain firm in our recognition of NATO's ongoing role in combatting Russian aggression, countering ISIS, and strengthening cybersecurity initiatives."

"I recall being in Afghanistan, and painting the NATO symbols on our vehicles," said Woodland Park Police Lieutenant Erik Luker. "We worked with our allies closely after September 11th, and I appreciate all the work they did to support us then, and their continued support now. Attending the Joint Meeting today is a reminder of the need to maintain the strong bonds we share with our allies."

Thursday, April 4th marks the 70th anniversary of NATO and the 1949 Washington Treaty.
