The Vet CENTERS for Mental Health Act is part of Sherrill’s Jersey STRONG Agenda

Dover, NJ— Representatives Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) joined NJ SOS Veterans’s Morris County Veteran Stakeholder meeting this morning alongside Catholic Charities at Hope House in Dover to announce their introduction of the Vet CENTERS for Mental Health Act, which would expand access to Vet Center mental health counseling across a wide breadth of American communities, including Northern New Jersey.

Vet Centers provide a range of services to veterans and their families with proven effectiveness. This includes mental health counseling for combat veterans, those who suffered military sexual assault, and their families; additionally they provide bereavement services to families of servicemembers who are killed while on duty.

This common-sense legislation leverages recent Census data as well as the VA's own statistical data to identify areas where expanded Vet Center access is needed in currently underserved, high-population states. Northern New Jersey is one of those underserved areas. The Congressmembers are fighting for a new Vet Center in Morris County.
