Rep. Sherrill Votes to Keep Government Funded, Support Ukraine and Those Affected by Recent Disasters
Washington, DC– Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted today for a continuing resolution that will keep the government funded through December 2022.
“I am pleased to join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in coming together to continue funding critical New Jersey priorities, provide integral support for Ukraine in its fight for democracy, direct emergency assistance to help those devastated by the recent natural disasters, and ensure that more resources are available to help Americans lower their home heating costs ahead of the winter months.
“I am also proud to say this legislation extends the National Flood Insurance Program. Access to flood insurance was critical to New Jersey’s recovery from Hurricane Ida last year. By extending this program, we will ensure that families can rebuild without financial ruin as we continue to experience extreme weather events.
“Following passage of this short-term extension to keep the government open, I look forward to working together with my colleagues to complete a full funding bill for the remaining fiscal year that provides the investments needed for our government to function effectively. I am committed to voting and passing responsible budgetary legislation that makes our country safer and stronger and funds New Jersey priorities.”
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Sherrill worked hard to secure supplemental military and economic funding for Ukraine in this bill. The legislation allocates military aid for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows the Pentagon to contract for new weapons and equipment for Kyiv, and makes additional investments to bolster U.S. forces stationed in Europe. It also appropriates funding to backfill U.S. stockpiles of weapons already sent to Ukraine, an amount that includes investments for critical munitions replenishment.
