Rep. Sherrill Votes to Lower Prescription Drug Costs, Fund Navigator Programs

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) voted for the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act to improve healthcare for Americans and address the high cost of prescription drugs. H.R. 987 revokes the junk health insurance rule, addresses the pace of generics coming to market, and funds federal navigator programs to help Americans sign up for healthcare coverage. Between 2016 and 2018, Federal Navigator Funding in New Jersey dropped 79 percent – from $1.9 million to $400,000.

"I have a constituent in New Jersey who, because she cannot afford her diabetes medication, gets the life-saving medicine she needs from Canada," said Representative Sherrill. "When sick, the ability to afford a prescription – or whether your plan offers the coverage you need – should be the last thing on your mind.

"This bill takes credible steps to improve our healthcare system and restore critical funding to help New Jersey families sign up for the healthcare plan that best represents the needs of our families."
