Rep. Sherrill Visits Picatinny Arsenal, Renews Commitment to Fight for the Base in the 118th Congress

Parsippany, NJ — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) visited Picatinny Arsenal yesterday to meet with Brigadier General John T. Reim and the leadership of the Armaments Center to receive a briefing on the Department of Defense’s munitions enterprise, and discuss Picatinny’s priorities for this year.
“Picatinny Arsenal is a critical leader in our national defense efforts and a linchpin in the North Jersey economy. Throughout my time in Congress, my visits to Picatinny have been invaluable in informing my advocacy in Washington and my work on the House Armed Services Committee. I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years and I look forward to continuing our partnership in the 118th Congress.” said Rep. Sherrill. “I want to thank Brigadier General Reim and the Picatinny team for their service and taking the time to meet with me.”
During the visit, Rep. Sherrill was briefed on the munitions supply chain and the Arsenal’s role at the forefront of our efforts to arm and resupply Ukraine. Additionally, Rep. Sherrill, General Reim, and incoming Armaments Center Director Chris Grassano discussed ways in which Picatinny can utilize the highly-skilled local workforce to further their innovative mission.
Picatinny Arsenal is one of the largest employers in NJ-11, with more than 6,000 employees, and supports thousands of additional jobs across New Jersey. Rep. Sherrill is a fierce advocate for Picatinny, most recently securing funding in the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will ensure the base remains the Army's leading research institution for armaments and ammunition. Through her work on the NDAA, Rep. Sherrill brought more than $100 million in additional funding for Picatinny and the surrounding defense manufacturing base in Fiscal Year 2023 alone.
Rep. Sherrill is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Navy for almost 10 years as a helicopter pilot and Russian policy officer. During her tenure in Congress, she’s served on the House Armed Services Committee, where she sat on the Tactical Air and Land Forces and Intelligence and Special Operations Subcommittees.
