MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — Last month, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill joined the NJ Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, VFW Post 3401, American Legion Post 59, Welcome Home Vets of NJ, NJ SOS Veterans Stakeholders Group, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson, and other community partners for a Morris County Veterans Appreciation Day picnic in Morris Plains.

“It was great to see the incredible support for our veterans from the county, local officials, and community organizations. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to take care of our veteran community, whether it’s an appreciation picnic or ensuring that the Department of Veterans Affairs has the funding and resources to care for our veterans and their families.” said Rep. Sherrill.

Rep. Sherrill is a former Navy helicopter pilot and former federal prosecutor. She recently joined fellow veterans in Congress to launch the Democratic Veterans Caucus — a new effort formed in response to alarming national security breaches at the Department of Defense, growing global threats, and ongoing attacks on veterans’ health care. Throughout her time in Congress she has supported veterans’ mental healthabortion rights for servicewomen, and she led a bipartisan group of New Jersey lawmakers to stand up for Picatinny Arsenal
