“In emergency situations, seconds matter. With this Community Project funding, RWJBarnabas Health will be able to train EMS personnel and physicians at Cooperman Barnabas in valuable military medical care techniques used to save lives in the field and ensure better long term outcomes for patients,” said Rep Sherrill. “Thank you to the RWJBarnabas team, County Executive Joe DiVincenzo, Livingston Township, and the Cooperman Barnabas staff for your partnership on this project. I also want to thank Senators Menendez and Booker for working with me to bring this funding across the finish line.”

“The Fiscal Year 2023 funding bill we passed at the end of last year contains significant wins and critical funding for New Jersey, including $181 million for community projects throughout the state that I helped secure,” said Senator Menendez. “I was proud to advocate alongside Sen. Booker and Rep. Sherrill for the Community Project funding that will help provide the same life-saving training our military uses in the field to EMS personnel and physicians here in New Jersey. This funding will ensure that every patient at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center will receive the efficient, quality care they deserve while preserving the well-being of the selfless, hard-working hospital staff who cares for them.”
“RWJBarnabas Health has been at the forefront of applying best practices from combat medical care to provide more effective care at the scene of emergencies. I'm proud to work with Sen. Menendez and Rep. Sherrill to secure funding so RWJBarnabas Health can expand this life-saving work, and I'm grateful to the system's healthcare professionals for working tirelessly every day to improve health outcomes and quality of life for New Jerseyans,” said Senator Booker.
“We are grateful to Congresswoman Sherrill for championing RWJBarnabas Health’s Community EMS Physician Response Expansion Initiative,” said Mark E. Manigan, President and Chief Executive Officer at RWJBarnabas Health. “The initiative, which was developed by studying care concepts from the U.S. military’s engagement in Afghanistan and Iraq, will enhance our current emergency medical services response framework. Our innovative approach will integrate the use of physicians where they are needed most to deliver hospital-level resources that improve access to life-saving care for New Jersey residents.”
This grant is one of the 14 Community Projects the Congresswoman submitted on behalf of NJ-11 through the House Appropriations Committee Fiscal Year 2023 bill.
RWJBarnabas Health’s EMS Physician Training and Mobile Health initiative is currently based in Newark, and this Community Project funding will be used to include an additional team based at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. This program will provide immediate life-saving interventions while also enhancing triage capabilities, which will improve the quality and efficiency of care, advance the well-being of patients and hospital staff, and save lives.
