Esther Hong of Millburn High School Takes First Place in NJ-11 Congressional Art Competition

Livingston, NJ–– The winners of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s sixth annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students in New Jersey’s 11th District were announced at a reception at Montclair State University on Friday evening.

The following students earned distinction for their art pieces:

  • First Place: Esther Hong, Millburn High School, “Protesting for Eggs & Tomatoes”

  • Second Place: Sofie Hagadorn, Randolph High School, “Good luck, baby”

  • Third Place: Annalisa Kilanowski, Montville Township High School, “Kayla”

“It is always inspiring to see the talent and creativity of NJ-11 students each year as they take part in the Congressional Art Competition. Thank you Montclair State for hosting our reception and judging the art again this year. Congratulations to Esther, Sofie, and Annalisa and well done to every student who participated!” said Rep. Sherrill.

Submissions were reviewed and awardees were selected by a panel of Montclair State University faculty: 

  • Keith Adams, Instructional Designer and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Art and Design

  • Sally Morgan Lehman, Director/Founder of Morgan Lehman Gallery and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Art and Design

  • Christopher Kaczmarek, Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Art, and the Chairperson for the Department of Art and Design

The first place winner’s piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the coming year alongside the winning pieces from every congressional district in the country. Second place will hang in Congresswoman Sherrill’s DC Office and third place will hang in her District Office.
