Sherrill Statement on Normalization of Relations Between Israel and the United Arab Emirates

Parsippany, NJ -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates:

"I welcome this latest move forward in the effort to build peace in the Middle East. Israel and the UAE are both valued partners, and I am glad to see this step to establish diplomatic relations.

"Israel is a key democratic ally and a crucial driver of commerce and innovation in the region. The UAE joins Jordan and Egypt in the establishment of diplomatic ties. This will have a significant impact on the Middle East's economy, ease of travel, and security cooperation. Israel and the UAE are both important forces against Iran's malign influence in the region and this announcement demonstrates significant agreement on the need to constrain Iran's illicit activities.

"I am hopeful that this is a signal of good things to come, both for a two-state solution and the broader Middle East, and I look forward to working to ensure progress toward peace and stability in the region."
