Rep. Sherrill Holds Veterans Outreach Day
Parsippany, NJ -- Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) held a Veterans Outreach Day this week to assist veterans during COVID-19, provide resources from local stakeholders and providers, and talk about the issues facing the veterans community in the 11th District.
Representative Sherrill's office partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Newark Regional Office, for a Telephonic Veterans Claims Clinic which ran throughout the day on Monday. She held her fourth virtual Monday with Mikie Town Hall, with a session focused on providing information about resources for veterans during COVID-19. The panel in the Town Hall updated veterans on VA services during the pandemic, provided information for veteran-owned businesses, and highlighted COVID-related resources available for mental health, substance abuse, and housing. Representative Sherrill also hosted a roundtable discussion with veteran leaders in the district, checked in with veteran constituents, and participated in an Instagram Live with veterans' advocate Lucy Del Gaudio on issues facing women veterans.
"I hope that the claims clinic and the information provided in this week's town hall were helpful to our veteran community," said Representative Sherrill. "The events this week were a continuation of a commitment to veterans that began the day I was sworn into Congress. I am honored to work for New Jersey's veterans in the House and help pass legislation like the PAWS for Veterans Therapy Act, the Homeless Veteran Families Act, and the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act. But there is always more to do, and conversations like those I had this week only help me be a better advocate in Congress on critical issues like the mental health needs of our veterans during COVID."

Representative Sherrill's office is available to assist veterans with restoring access to rightly earned benefits, obtaining service records, and correcting errors in military records. During the 116th Congress, Representative Sherrill and her team have helped more than 150 veterans, and returned hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost benefits to veterans in the 11th District.
