Rep. Sherrill Focuses on Veterans’ Issues in Events Across NJ-11

Parsippany, NJ –– Yesterday, Wednesday, August 18th, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) hosted and participated in a number of events with local veterans focused on the most pressing issues facing the veterans community. The topics ranged from the needs of small business owners to mental health resources and Vets Centers to how to access VA benefits.

"The most crucial part of my job as a Member of Congress is directly addressing the needs of my constituents. As a veteran myself, working on issues for veteran constituents is especially rewarding," said Rep. Sherrill. "Today's events and conversations offered the opportunity to hear from veterans across the district about their needs, discuss how we can improve services for all veterans, and to get feedback on the work I'm doing in Washington to support our veterans."

Rep. Sherrill participated in the following events focused on veterans issues today:

  • Military-Veterans Small Business Roundtable -- Rep. Sherrill met with local military veterans who own small businesses across NJ-11 at the Butler VFW Post 8096 for a roundtable discussion on the challenges servicemembers face when starting a small business, what additional support is needed, and how access to veterans focused programs can be improved.
  • Tour of Bloomfield Vet Center -- Rep. Sherrill toured the VA's readjustment counseling clinic in Bloomfield to discuss the critical services they offer and learn more about the challenges our Vet Centers have faced after seeing an rise in caseload during the pandemic
  • Bloomfield VFW Post 711's 100th Anniversary Celebration -- At the celebration event, Rep. Sherrill presented Commander Allen Garth a flag flown over the Capitol.
  • VA Benefits Webinar -- Rep. Sherrill provided a legislative update to veterans and their families during a benefits webinar hosted by her office. Subject matter experts from the Department of Veterans Affairs gave presentations to explain the different VA benefit programs, answer questions and assist veterans confronting challenges in accessing their benefits.

Rep. Sherrill's office will also be hosting a Veterans Telephonic Claims Clinic in conjunction with the Newark VA Regional Office on August 30th. The telephonic claims clinic is by appointment only. To make an appointment, call Rep. Sherrill's Parsippany office at 973-526-5668 by August 26th.
