Rep. Sherrill Meets with Onkos Surgical to Discuss Onshoring of Manufacturing Jobs to Parsippany

Parsippany, NJ — On Tuesday, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) toured Onkos Surgical’s new manufacturing and research and development facility in Parsippany, which they recently moved from overseas to New Jersey. After the tour, Sherrill sat down with employees for a town hall discussion on the reinvigoration of American manufacturing and R&D, and how the federal legislation and investments she helped pass are ensuring New Jersey can continue to be a historic hub of innovation.
Building on their experience with innovative 3D printing and surgical planning for musculoskeletal oncology, Onkos will now manufacture high tech prostheses at this facility for children with sarcoma, a cancer of the bones and soft tissue.
“New Jersey’s spirit of innovation powers our economy, creates good-paying jobs, and improves working families’ quality of life. Onkos is continuing that legacy as manufacturing and R&D work for this new product gets underway at their newly expanded facility here in NJ-11. It is always exciting and encouraging to see manufacturing jobs return to the U.S. as we work to strengthen our economy for both New Jersey workers and job creators, and I had a great discussion today with Onkos employees about the strong future ahead for American manufacturing and R&D,” said Rep. Sherrill.
“It was an honor and a privilege to host Congresswoman Sherrill to Onkos Surgical. Our team has worked tirelessly to bring meaningful innovation and new manufacturing jobs to our New Jersey headquarters. Congresswoman Sherrill has advocated for policies that support companies of our size to continue funding innovation for surgeons and patients. I would also like to recognize Dr. Kathleen Beebe from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School for her stewardship of the orthopedic oncology specialty and for her participation in this event. Collectively, these efforts are critical to the innovation we are pursuing to advance sarcoma care for adult and pediatric patients. We are thankful for the opportunity to share the importance of this work,” said Patrick Treacy, Onkos Surgical Founder and CEO.
“Onkos Surgical’s impressive expanded offerings are vital for pediatric oncology patients. The tour, which included several County College of Morris graduates and Onkos associates, proved that U.S. based research and manufacturing here in Parsippany, Morris County is world class, and demonstrates what can be accomplished in onshoring manufacturing with bipartisan efforts by Congresswoman Sherrill and her colleagues,” said Morris County Commissioner Director John Krickus.
Rep. Sherrill and Onkos employees were also joined by state and local economic organizations, including the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program (NJMEP), the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA), the Morris County Economic Development Alliance, and the County College of Morris.
Rep. Sherrill’s visit at Onkos Surgical kicks off her ‘Innovation in NJ’ tour over the next few weeks. Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of the CHIPS and Science Act––legislation Rep. Sherrill supported and helped pass––being signed into law. In just one year, the U.S. economy has seen $231 billion in private investment in the semiconductor industry and the best New Jersey manufacturing jobs numbers since the early 1990s. Sherrill has convened roundtables and conducted listening tours with New Jersey businesses to discuss the impact of this legislation.
